Bandits Bandanas

The last thing I shot before the world shut down.

David McMurray (DMC), a director I’ve been lucky to travel the world and work with, brought me in. We shot 16mm Kodak color reversal on a WWII-era Bolex, a camera that makes you earn every frame. The finder barely tells you the truth, so half the time you’re pulling focus on instinct.

With that being said, we were out in the desert, a Porsche ripping donuts through dust so thick I could barely see, driven by a wild one. When the take ended I looked down at the tire marks in the dirt. The ass end had missed me and my knees by a few inches, more than once. We all had a good laugh, and PJ Koll and I have been homies ever since. Thank you PJ.

Grain, dust, and a near miss. Film has a way of burning a day into you.
